Orthopedics is a discipline concerned with preventing or
correcting disorders of the body’s structural framework, including the
bones, joints, and muscles. An orthopedic surgeon is a physician
with many years of training in the physical, medical, or surgical
treatment and/or rehabilitation of the body’s intricate mechanical
system. Orthopedic physicians may also have additional training in
subspecialties such as sports medicine, foot problems, joint replacement, knee,
ankle, or shoulder reconstruction.
